A Proud Moment in the Journey

James presenting a handcrafted Low D whistle to former Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

James grew up in a small village in County Carlow, in a home where music wasn't a hobby, it was the heartbeat of the family. Gifted musicians all, the Dominic household needed no television. A tune would start and the room would follow.

"Not to sell. Just to play."

When the recession hit in 2008, James turned to something he'd always loved: making. With patience, trial and error, and an instinct honed by a lifetime of playing, he began crafting his own low whistles from his workshop in Carlow.

But the whistles were something special. Refined over years of quiet, determined craftsmanship, they caught attention far beyond Carlow.

The journey so far...

2008

The first whistle

When the recession hit, James turned to his workshop. Trial, error, and a lifetime of playing led to his first crafted low whistle, made not to sell, just to play.

2016

A gift to the Taoiseach

James presented a set of whistles to Taoiseach Enda Kenny, a quiet moment that said everything about how far honest craft can travel.

2019

Open to the world

James opened his workshop to players worldwide. Thousands of musicians, beginners and seasoned alike, have since found their sound through a James Dominic whistle.

Today

Still made by hand

Every whistle still leaves the same humble Carlow workshop where it all began, shaped by the same hands, the same ear, the same love of the music.

THE FAMILY

A family business, through and through

James doesn't work alone. His daughter and sons are part of every whistle that leaves the workshop, carrying forward the same spirit that filled that Carlow workshop all those years ago.
