    Nice tone and Responsive play

I do not have any G whistles to compare with the Dominic whistle I received. Being a hobbyist, I do not feel qualified to give an assessment of the musical quality. That said, I do like the warm tone and ease of play. It plays like my high D whistles with enough spacing for a pipers grip like a bagpipe chanter. The sound is fantastic and the whistle is responsive beyond the speed I can play.
Right out of the tube, it is a pleasure to play. Good Work Jimmy and family!

    Loud, needs lot if air

Hi, I‘m not a professional player, but I can compare the JD to my Tony Dixon G Whistle and a self made one from an electric conduit with wooden block.

JD: bore: 22 mm (I guess 25mm electric conduit), cutout: 12.5x 6.9, biggest hole 12mm, loud, lot of air, 2nd octave difficult, but clean. I like the nice warm sound but blowing is effortful, holes very big for small fingers. Best if you need a loud one.

    Tony Dixon: bore 16, cutout 9.8 x 6, biggest hole 9.4
bit less loud and less air needed, squeeky, 2nd octave very difficult not to have a chirp from 3rd or more, slightly chirps in 1st octave too. I could make it more handsome with narrowing the cutout with bluetag.

    DIY: bore 17, cutout 8 x 6, biggest hole 7.8
Quietest, little air, very clean octave jumps, sound is a bit airy and not so warm as the JD, but it is still the best (for my neighbors)

In conclusion: bigger bore sounds better, width of cutout changes volume, octave jumps are very sensitive to the length of cutout.

Very nice, clean sound, good price, good delivery time

I was quite happy to receive the whistle, I was really looking forward to it. The shipping time was very reasonable, the packaging was good and protective, and the whistle itself is quite nice. The tones it produces can range from a fairly soft, gentle tone to a loud, bright tone depending on the player's breath. I DID have to use some very very fine emery cloth to smooth off some rough edges on the metal fipple insert, but that was the only things required. It really cannot be overemphasized, for those new to low whistles, to practice the "piper's grip" with the somewhat larger holes than one is used to with higher key whistles. The low D, which was all the rage some years back, required not only the piper's grip, to seal the holes properly, but also a good bit of finger stretch; this one does not require any finger stretch, for an average to large hand, but again, it takes practice to seal the holes properly, lest you get a squeaky squeal which will annoy you and any small animal who hear it. So practice and practice, and you will enjoy this delightful instrument for many years to come.
